~ IMAGINE ~

Dreams at night that linger,
full of heartache and pain
Crying in the pillow
because life will never be the same
A life so full of promise,
now shattered on the floor
The things that happened to him,
when he was only four

He struggles to the front porch,
his bruises red and sore
His eyes are filled with terror,
and he can still hear the roar
The leather belt with teeth,
that bites against his skin
All because he wouldn't cry
and let the big man win

At ten he's hard and bitter,
his anger held inside
He doesn't understand the pain,
that he tries so hard to hide
If only he was smart
like Dad wants him to be
His head is reeling
as it bangs against the big oak tree

The teen age boy is bitter
and his face shows such turmoil
No one understands
why he hurt the little girl
His fists beat at the window,
and his muffled sobs are heard
The heart inside his chest
is sore and bleeding, raw

Listen to the whispers,
they say that he is bad
No one knows the beatings
and the suffering that he had
Look into the future,
imagine what can be
This little boy is grown now,
and his anger you will see
