Lauren and her dad ready to leave for a Father-Daughter Valentine's Dance... What a special night and what a proud dad :)
LAUREN'S PERFUME
You were a little girl of three
When you started picking flowers for me
Pots and pans you'd fill with stems
Throw in daisies and then you'd blend
A little mud, a leaf or two
You'd mix it up and add some dew
With tiny hands that worked so hard
You made a perfume I adored
A dance recital when you were five
You forgot what to do but you really tried
Memories of my little girl
Sewing a doll for mommy dear
Safe in a box I keep it still
No arms it has but the heart is real
I remember fireworks in the sky
At Inner Harbor on the Fourth of July
And a Valentine dance when you were eleven
You looked like an angel straight from heaven
Daddy smiled , were there tears in his eyes?
No of course not ! Daddy's don't cry
Remember the kisses that Pop Pop gave
Chocolate ones that he would save
You guess the hand and it is yours!
One look in his eyes and you knew who he adored
The years have flown and now you're grown
Trying your wings out on your own
No matter how old you get to be
Remember how much you mean to me
I Love You,
Mom
HOW DO I LEARN JUST WHO I AM?
I learn from you who I am.
Within your eyes I see
reflected me.
Within your voice I hear
how you see me.
You are the mirror that I look into
and mold the image of myself.
I sense the way you hold me,
and from your touch
I feel my form, my shape.
And if I like what I see in
your eyes,
your voice,
your touch---
My heart responds and reaches out.
Then in its reaching, grows and grows,
until I see myself
as separate.
That separate self--in turn--
can love you back.
Because you taught me
who I am,
and I am loved.
TURN AROUND
Where are you going, my little one, little one
Where are you going, my baby, my own?
Turn around and you're two
Turn around and you're four
Turn around and you're a young girl going out of the door
Where are you going, my little one, little one
Little dirndls & petticoats, where have you gone?
Turn around & you're tiny,
Turn around & you're grown
Turn around & you're a young wife with babes of your own.
